At the beginning of 1910, less than six months after Louis Blériot’s flight across the English Channel, an aviation meeting was held in Colombier, Neuchâtel, which is considered to be the first Swiss air show ever to give the general public the opportunity to get an impression of the new (if not suspect) flying machines. The canton of Neuchâtel, which organized the meeting, must have been quite interested in the whole thing, otherwise it would not have advertised the event with posters. In fact, 8000 people are said to have attended on the first day alone – although they were rather disappointed due to unfavorable weather conditions: More than a few hops by the Geneva and French pilots to a maximum height of 15 meters were not possible.
This does not alter the fact that this original poster – in excellent condition, by the way – is a witness to the earliest days of Swiss aviation that, as far as we know, has never been on the market before.
