Original Travel Poster from the Art Deco period, designed in 1934 by Basel commercial artist Johannes «Hans» Handschin on behalf of the Flims and Waldhaus Flims tourist board to attract summer visitors to the Graubünden municipality, which is now primarily known as a winter sports destination. The eye-catcher is a young, tanned beauty who is about to dive into the picturesque, clear blue Lake Cauma, surrounded by forests.
The occasional notes on mainly Handschin’s posters, such as «Publicité Mann» or «Mann Reklame» and later «Gedezet AG» can be traced back to Josef Mann, who came from Mainz and initially ran an advertising consultancy and then an advertising agency in Basel, occasionally managing to secure commissions for posters, which he then arranged to have produced by designers and printers.
