In 1919 the Basel-based Quodlibet Society decided to hold balls during the Mustermesse (Trade Fair), which soon evolved into a major social event. Then, in 1935, the Ball of Basel Balls took place: the LIght Wonder featuring MArek Weber at the QUOdlibet Ball (Li-Ma-Quo), for which the young Fritz Bühler had designed this Original Poster.
At the time, the violinist Weber was one of the most renowned leaders of German salon orchestras; he had made numerous recordings and performed at Berlin’s finest hotels before fleeing the Nazis in 1933 and arriving in Switzerland in 1935.
