Original Swiss poster by an unknown artist, designed for the major exhibition of antique and modern watchmaking art in La Chaux-de-Fonds, the Neuchâtel epicenter of the Swiss watch industry—announced as an «exhibition» because the term “trade fair” likely seemed too mundane.
Noteworthy: «Everyone is aware of the growing importance of advertising in the watch industry. That is why the graphic design exhibition will be one of the major attractions at the Palais de l’Horlogerie,» according to the Fédération Horlogère’s official publication.
The one-month event, opened by the Federal Councilor responsible for industry, soon came to be regarded as one of Switzerland’s most important industrial exhibitions, which is why the first Swiss Watch Fair took place just one year later—also in La Chaux-de-Fonds.
