The Chief – proud, wise, determined: The last original poster created by Johannes Handschin, designed shortly before his death in early 1948 for the Aargau cigar factory Hediger & Co.
And when you ask yourself why an Indian should be brought to Switzerland to be a Swiss pawn – as it was said at the time: the tobacco came from the so-called New World, and thanks to Karl May and his Winnetou, an indigenous person from the North American prairie with impressive feather ornaments was the ideal symbol and namesake. The fact that the strong tobacco varieties needed for the pawn came from Latin America rather than the USA was secondary.
possibly also of interest – the only hyperrealistic product poster by Johannes Handschin:
Aarau Light Bulb Factory
