«I had my two-piece swimsuit on, and he asked me to jump into the lake. I didn't mind, why should I; he put his camera on the ground, I jumped, finished. He only clicked the shutter once, I only jumped once,» recalled the woman in 2006 who had been photographed by Jules Geiger in 1938.
The self-taught artist (1898 – 1987) then mounted his snapshot into a photograph of Lake Cauma before the local tourism authority had the montage hand-colored (probably by the Kümmerly & Frey printing company in Bern). The poster became so popular that several new editions followed and the motif became an icon over the decades; rare, especially in this pristine condition.
