Since 1931, the crossbow referencing Wilhelm Tell, registered with the Federal Office for Intellectual Property during the Great Depression, has served as a trademark to promote the preference for domestic goods over foreign products and thus support domestic industry – here memorably complemented by a busy bee on plump honeycombs, intended to symbolize the diligence of Swiss workers and the conscientiousness of manufacturers. However, the crossbow has only actually served as an official quality seal since 1983, before the original «Central Office for the Swiss Origin Mark» was renamed «Swiss Label» in 1989. Today, around 300 companies are allowed to advertise their products with the crossbow.

Georges Pierrehumbert has – if at all – attracted attention as a draftsman rather than as a poster designer (in this context, a thank you to Mr. Rolf Thalmann). Rare.
