An exceptionally rare original poster, designed by Otto Ernst, who worked for the Trüb printing company in Aarau, on behalf of the SBB, which for decades repeatedly promoted specific routes—as well as general tourist destinations, particularly abroad—using multilingual posters or posters printed in multiple language versions, without explicitly identifying itself as the publisher.
Bellinzona, the capital of Ticino, was a natural choice because it is where the St. Gotthard and San Bernardino Alpine passes converge, and it is undoubtedly the most Italian city in Switzerland, with a correspondingly Mediterranean way of life; the three castles—Castelgrande, Castello di Montebello, and Castello di Sasso Corbaro—now part of the Bellinzona Fortress—stand as a testament to the varied twists and turns of history.
