Original poster, designed by Anton Trieb (1883 – 1954), which announced the electrification of the Gotthard route by the SBB in 1920 or 1921 – electric operation between Erstfeld and Bellinzona was launched after a construction period of a good four and a half years in three stages between September 1920 and May 1921.
If you are now wondering why the poster still shows a steam locomotive pulling cars across the Piantorino viaduct at Ceneri and why there are no power lines whatsoever: For one, the motif had probably already been used years earlier for other advertising purposes, which is why the SBB saved themselves a new design and simply had the relevant text added at the top. For another, electrification was not completed until 1922, since initially there were not enough electric locomotives ready—meaning the motif is therefore not incorrect.
Either way: A rare testimony to Swiss industrial history, excellently preserved.
