Original tourism poster, designed in 1932 by Alex Walter Diggelmann on behalf of the Interlaken Tourist Office to attract guests to take excursions from the picturesque town nestled between Lake Thun and Lake Brienz to the Schynige Platte, located a good 2,000 meters above sea level—a mountain flank above Wilderswil in the Bernese Oberland featuring a massive slab of slate rock that intensely reflects sunlight when wet.

Access is via the Schynige Platte Railway, a cog railway built in 1893 that overcomes an elevation difference of over 1,400 meters over a distance of around 7.3 kilometers. Those who arrive at the top are rewarded with a fabulous view of the gleaming white triumvirate of the Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau. Flora enthusiasts will also get their money's worth: immediately next to the mountain station of the rack railway is the entrance to the Alpine Botanical Garden. The paths, which total around one kilometer in length, lead visitors past some 600 species over the course of the summer, which corresponds to around two-thirds of the entire Swiss alpine flora.
