A richly adorned elephant against a jade-colored background, with a dignitary wearing a turban on its back: in the late 1950s (and, for that matter, probably even today), this was the epitome of India for the target audience in the Western Hemisphere; Accordingly, the Basel-based graphic designer Donald Brun placed this animal—sacred in Hinduism—at the center of his design, which Swissair used starting in 1958 to promote its DC-7 flights to India.
