Even today, nearly sixty years later, Georg Gerster’s portrayal of this desert landscape in Los Angeles still makes an impression. Meanwhile, while an European at the time was probably simply amazed by the highways that extended like tentacles and at several levels, as well as by the American belief in progress (the first oil crisis followed only two years later), today it is more of a deterrent example. Still, a strong reception.
