Original promotional poster, designed in 1930 by Carl Moos—originally created for the Swiss Air Transport Union (cf. Otto Baumberger’s design; see the link below); the Fokker VIIb pictured here, with registration number CH-161, was put into service by Balair in February and was destroyed in October of the same year after colliding with a tall chimney in foggy conditions.
After its founding in March 1931—presumably due to time constraints—Swissair used the design with new text for its own purposes. The cubist-inspired design was apparently so well received that the new airline had (probably in 1932, or 1933 at the latest) had a full-fledged poster printed—without being bothered by the fact that the Fokker depicted not only never flew for Swissair but, as a result of the collision, no longer even existed.
