The second Australia poster – which is significantly rarer than the first one showing the Coral Reef (part of the Great Barrier Reef) and which Swissair allowed to be printed in 1971/72 – is from the famous series of photographs taken from the plane.
Printed in 1979, it already bears the new logo, which replaced the one created by Rudolf Bircher and introduced in 1953, as Armin Baltensweiler, the then head of Swissair, wanted to inject some fresh air on the occasion of the 1981 50th anniversary of Swissair. Designed by Emil Schulthess and Hans Frei using a photograph taken by Georg Gerster from New South Wales.
