An extremely popular poster of the Montreux-Bernese Oberland Railway, which from 1905 connected Montreux on Lake Geneva via Château-d'Oex and Gstaad with Zweisimmen in the Bernese Oberland – thereby further fueling the emerging tourism in this region rich in magnificent panoramas.

Karl Otto Ernst (1884-1967) created numerous tourism posters between roughly 1925 and 1940, which, with their narrative depiction of picturesque motifs, appeal just as much to today's preferences as the original posters by Martin Peikert. Having trained as a lithographer from 1900 at the Aarau printing company Trüb & Cie., Ernst did not turn to poster design until around 1910—during his second stay in Paris, where he connected with Théophile Steinlen and Eugène Grasset, two Swiss artists who celebrated great success as poster designers in turn-of-the-century Paris.
