An original SBB poster designed in 1924 to impress foreign audiences as well, on the occasion of the recently completed electrification of the Gotthard Line—a project that, as it turned out, would soon be regarded as exemplary abroad. The Swiss Federal Railways had the German and English versions printed in Zurich, but this French version (certainly because the volume exceeded the capacity of a single printing plant) was printed in Neuchâtel—that is, by a different printer and in a slightly smaller format, which explains the minor differences in color application and size (see also below).
Here, Daniele Buzzi—himself an engineer who has worked on hydroelectric projects, among other things—depicts a Be 4/6 locomotive crossing the Kerstelenbach Bridge in the canton of Uri. A second illustration from the same series, also by Buzzi, depicts the CE 6/8 locomotive—also known as the “Crocodile”—in the Leventina.
