’Little Big City" on a magnificent poster—created by Adolphe Tièche (1838–1912), a native of the Jura and a trained architect, who also served as president of the Bern chapter of the Association of Swiss Painters, Sculptors, and Architects from 1907 to 1912. On the occasion of the Gordon Bennett Balloon Race (Zurich was the starting point in 1909), the organizers, for obvious reasons, chose his poster—which had originally been created in 1908 to promote Zurich—and added an overprint to advertise the event. The race was a huge event at the time: More than 200,000 visitors attended over the three days of the event. After a 35-hour flight, the race winners landed 1,120 kilometers away near Warsaw.
