Around 1900, the Geneva brothers Henri and Armand Dufaux designed an engine that could be fitted like a bag into the frame of any bicycle. The approach was so successful that industrial production of the «pannier engine»—hence Motosacoche—soon began.
Depicted on the poster, which was most likely printed in 1903 or 1904, is the company's first model, the Motor Type-A, against a dramatic backdrop, accompanied by a bare-breasted heavenly messenger intended to evoke Hermes, the messenger of the gods—presumably to ennoble the product.
