A wonderful original poster by a presently unidentified creator, promoting Andermatt, located at the foot of the Gotthard Pass, as a winter destination – featuring an illustration of a Furka-Oberalp Railway steam locomotive pushing carriages downhill amidst the deeply snow-covered Urseren Valley.
The occasion for this promotional measure was likely the inauguration in the summer of 1926 of the continuously passable FO line between Brig in the Canton of Valais via Gletsch to Disentis in the Canton of Graubünden. It connected Andermatt to one of the main axes of train traffic—after the Gotthard line had previously bypassed the town, to which it only had access via the Schöllenen Railway operating to Göschenen.
