Exposition d’Horlogerie – La Chaux-de-Fonds

Original Swiss Poster by an unknown artist, designed on the occasion of the major exhibition of ancient and modern watchmaking in La Chaux-de-Fonds, the Neuchâtel epicenter of the Swiss watch industry – billed as an exhibition because «trade fair» seemed too mundane.

Noteworthy: «Everyone is aware of the growing importance of advertising in the watch industry. Therefore, the exhibition of graphic design will be one of the major attractions of the Palais de l’Horlogerie,» according to the organ of the Fédération Horlogère.

The month-long event, opened by the Federal Councilor responsible for industry, was soon regarded as one of the most important industrial exhibitions in Switzerland, which is why the first Swiss Watch Fair took place just one year later – also in La Chaux-de-Fonds.
