From an advertisement in 1958 featuring this poster created by Hansruedi Widmer in the studio of Victor N. Cohen (the nucleus of the later Advico):
“More than 30 years of creatively evaluated experience, hard pioneering work, incessant research with one great goal in mind: to create zippers that meet the highest standards. This is how the name riri has gained international recognition: the most important zipper factories all over the world work according to riri patents and produce high-quality zippers on Swiss riri machines! Is there any more convincing proof of quality?”
Originally founded in Germany in 1923 by Martin Othmar Winterhalter from St. Gallen and relocated to Mendrisio in 1936, Riri (for the German Words for “groove” and “rib”) patented its first die-cast zipper on nylon in 1950, in which the teeth and the backing are combined in a single piece. Today, the company belongs to the industrial conglomerate OC Oerlikon.
One of the 29 posters that won the “Swiss Poster of the Year” award in 1958.
