The initiative “For the one-time levy on assets” launched by the Social Democrats to reduce the debts incurred during the First World War was rejected in December 1922 with a “no” vote registering 87% (!) of the valid votes.
Emil Cardinaux’ huge jester, of course red, leaning on a factory chimney and with heavy money bag, made a powerful stir against the proposal; a very effective visual language and one of his few voting posters.
