A truly magnificent Original Travel Poster that captures the essence of lithography even on screen: no other printing process can produce colors that remain this vibrant even after 100 years – rich and intense even in the most subtly shaded areas. It’s one of our absolute favorite posters, because even though it’s essentially a painting devoid of any graphic abstraction: These colors are breathtaking.
The Ticino engineer and artist Daniele Buzzi, as well as – this has to be noted – the Lausanne printer Auguste Marsens, put a tremendous amount of effort into this; together, they must have prepared rather eight stones rather than six. An enormous undertaking and correspondingly expensive. Costs that the local tourism organization did not shy away from in order to attract summer visitors to Buzzi’s hometown on the northern shore of Lake Maggiore. And indispensable when it came to showcasing the Madonna del Sasso pilgrimage church above Locarno in the best Fauvist light. Clearly, everyone involved put their hearts into this project.
