Ice skating as ballroom dancing, carefree and elegant – an enormously effective masterpiece in its skilful simplification and consistent monumentalization and, accordingly, one of the most famous Original Posters ever used by the Graubünden spa town of Davos to promote itself.
After years of training in Paris and Munich, Burkhard Mangold (1873 – 1950) opened a studio for commissioned graphic works in his home town of Basel in 1900, making him one of the pioneers from Geneva, Bern (such as Emil Cardinaux) and Zurich (Otto Baumberger) who led the Swiss poster into the modern age.
