A wonderfully colored and extremely rare original poster, created in 1922 during the Art Deco era, which also documents a noble piece of local history: It advertises the upcoming opening of the Cinema Seefeld; although already the 22nd cinema in Zurich (!), it was the first for which a new building was erected specifically and which could therefore be furnished in an appropriately prestigious manner – entirely to the taste of the targeted educated bourgeoisie. The fact that the acoustics were miserable, not least because of the elaborate décor, did not matter: after all, only silent films were shown. Today, the now listed building on Seefeldstrasse is home to the Razzia restaurant.

The poster is signed with the monogram HL, which suggests the painter Hans Leemann (1887 – 1967), who does not seem to have left much of a mark as an artist, but of whom at least three other identically marked posters from this period are known.
