Original Poster designed by Emil Cardinaux, which, compared to his earlier and later works, in which the landscape takes center stage, appears unusually quiet – devoid of any dynamism whatsoever. As a Swiss man with a strong attachment to his homeland and a love of the mountains, did he place the energizing power of nature above the achievements of technology? And that is why he included hardly any reference to the railway infrastructure…? But this raises the question of why the Bernese Alpine Railway Company actually had the design printed.

Other explanatory approaches are welcome.
