Cactuses in Switzerland? Yes, in Brissago, on the shores of Lake Maggiore in the canton of Ticino, less than 200 metres above sea level. That’s why this area has the mildest climate in Switzerland – pretty well captured by Oscar Bölt (1907–1983), an artist, stage and poster designer from Lucerne, active in Locarno. Printed 1936 by – quite surprisingly – Fiedler in La Chaux-de-Fonds, not in Ticino. Maybe it was issued in French only (“Suisse Italienne”)?, to catch the French-speaking Swiss? Either way: A very cheerful original Swiss poster, very Art Déco, very rare, wonderful condition.
