Original poster by Anton Reckziegel (1865–1929) that promoted the spectacular Bernina-Bahn, put in service in 1908; in the meantime a part of the Rhaetian Railways, it is still Europe’s highest railway, linking St. Moritz in the Engadine with Tirano in Italy via the Bernina Pass.
Anton Reckziegel moved to Switzerland in 1892 and was THE exponent of the Swiss tourism poster at the turn of the century, before he – despite his attempts to adapt – eventually was overrun by the trend towards simpler, more abstract and less painterly designs; rare, especially in this condition.
